GINA COLEMAN -Unequivocally Blue, 6.6.2025, Guitar One Records
This exclusivity of the first solo album by the truly remarkable Gina Coleman, five days apart, is not questionable at all, as I am among the first in this space to provide you with information about this studio solo debut, whose title speaks it all Unequivocally Blue.
Because so far Gina has proved herself very well in her work and performance in the Misty Blues band, as an extremely striking lead singer in the band. Her impressive vocals truly leave everyone who has encountered this band breathless. I vividly remember my first meeting with this band and Gina and the moment I heard what it was about. You don't hear something like that every day. Namely, between the band, her radio show "Queens Of The Blues" and now, this absolutely fantastic solo album, it's hard to believe how it all works out and if she has any spare time at all. This striking set of eleven songs and those who are trained and adapted from acoustic blues and roots music will surely appeal to fans of both blues and Americana. Her first solo album contains really the right things for all those who know her opus and the current musical work very well.
Generally taking and knowing her composing abilities, but also complete covers of her compositions are made with musicians who are 100% "IN" in her film. It’s not about how good the crew is, it’s undeniable - it’s about that everyone is 100% in the story and that with their musicianship and complete participation in every single track on the album together they really sound incredible and absolutely unique.
Unequivocally Blue. is perhaps on the first slightly more moderate than what we're hearing from Misty Blues. Well, on the first one I was really quite surprised and completely conquered by what is heard and actually, right away on the first listening. What will knock everyone out are certainly always the impressive vocal abilities of Gina herself. Her voice has depth, breadth, it has that expressive strength and patina of the greatest singers of this musical genre. It's great that the whole album isn't electric but that this acoustic side somehow develops itself and in a way - as it is said from 0 to 100 and there - just stays. With such a voice, only an exceptional band is responsible, who from the first to the last millisecond carries everything that is happening on the album so impressively and hears it crystal clear!
RECOMMENDATION:
Unequivocally Blue will remain written and recorded as Gina’s first solo album and as such Gina Coleman puts in line all the vocal giants who lit up the global blues and music scene. Her first solo album sounds just right and clearly lets everyone know Gina is definitely not new to this music world. Besides the superb production, there is this complete atmosphere that literally kills all of us who have the luck and pleasure to listen to this album.
Unequivocally Blue is a great example of how Gina and the band simply receive but also hear, and disperse music with their completely different approach. And therefore this album is so "cool" but also extremely enriched with those attributes that classify it as a true class, which exudes unmistakable blues with mild deviations into other areas and yet so significantly concentrated in what it actually represents as a whole. Gina Coleman and with this solo album puts a full stop on and, and completely clearly and directly lets everyone know that she is so present there and that she completely surrenders to what means so much to her and to what she truly loves, which is music. Just don't miss this album at all.
